Eco Warrior Initiative

An initiative led by students, elected as school councillors, whose focus is to improve our school’s carbon footprint and in educating our whole school community about the increasing need to protect the world around us. Through this platform we promote values of RESPECT and active citizenship.

We aim to highlight current environmental issues through:

  • Assemblies
  • Poster campaigns
  • Our notice board
  • Our firefly page
  • Arranging litter patrols
  • Poster campaign
  • Promote learning about global issues, such as sustainability and biodiversity by circulating lesson ideas to all staff
  • Harvesting
  • Flower beds

Meetings

Our eco-warriors meet once a week every Thursday lunchtime where we discuss our action plan, working towards our targets for the year.

Our 3 targets for this year:

1. Litter: Reducing the amount of litter in our local area

  • Arranging litter patrols
  • Poster campaign

2. Biodiversity: Caring for all plants, animals and insects

  • Promote learning about global issues, such as sustainability and biodiversity by circulating lesson ideas to all staff
  • Harvesting
  • Flower beds

3. Global citizenship: Working with others on local and global issues.

  • Schools in Indonesia

The Eco Warriors initiative is an ideal opportunity for our pupils to get more involved in the way our school is run and to help us to be more environmentally friendly. It provides opportunities for pupils to communicate their feelings as well as influence decisions that are made. It empowers our students by adopting active citizenship by providing them the opportunity to develop skills such as confidence, communication and negotiation.
